Taerar Abilities
Sleep - AOE sleep that target random areas around Taerar that sleep PCs for 4s.
Green Dragon Breath - Increases cooldowns on all abilities and deals 3000 nature damage. Main tank only.
Tail Sweep - Hits anyone near her tail away.
25% ability - Summon Shades. 3 Dragons of equal melee strength (but no fear and much less health) are summoned. Taerar cannot be attacked at this time.
Fear - Fears everyone within 35 yards.
Countering Taerar's Abilities.
Sleep
Sleep forms around the dragon and it looks like a cloud of mist. It will roam around and spread it also seems to be attracted to nearby players. To avoid this sleep you must move as soon as it starts to get near you. Sometimes its unavoidable as the sleep will spawn upon your raid group. Just make sure when this happens you have your MT healers spread about as it's fatal to have all of your healers slept at once.
Green Dragon Breath
This comes from the dragon and is a cone effect ability meaning that it comes from the dragon's mouth and will only hit anyone within about 45degrees of his head wherever it's facing. It's very important that the main tank keeps the dragon upon him when they dragon is doing this so it will avoid many getting it. Also because this breath is slightly different that most breaths because it increases cool downs make sure your dmg dealers hold back slightly if your main tank gets unlucky and doesn't resist a lot of these he will not be able to use his main agro gaining abilities as much as usual due to the cool downs being increased.
Fear
Tail Sweep
This will hit anyone within 30 yards behind the dragon for 600-1001 dmg and it will cause them to be knocked back along way. Just make sure that no one is standing directly behind the dragon at all times.
Shades of Taerar
This is Taerar's % ability that is done at 75%, 50% and 25% of Taerar's health. Once it activates Taerar will become a shadow and cannot be damaged and will spawn 3 smaller dragons called Shades of Taerar each of these has a poison cloud effect which is cast in melee range which does 350dmg per second for 10 seconds. They also do an Acid Breath attack in a cone in front of them which does around 1000dmg.
Walkthrough
Before you pull there is usually 2 minor wandering dragons in the immediate area these must be killed and also there are usually 2-3 roaming packs of dragonkin that need to be killed prior to the pull. But make sure that once you start killing these roaming packs that they are on a semi short re spawn timer so don't delay in engaging Taerar after you have cleared them as you don't want them popping on you in the middle of the fight. If by any chance they do pop in the fight they can be slept so just make sure your raid druids are aware that if they pop it's their job to sleep them.
Before the fight make sure that you have at least 3 main tanks that are ready to pick up the Shades of Taerar when they spawn. You could use druids to tank these but only if you don't have enough warriors to do it. It's always best when choosing a main tank that you have him wearing high nature resist gear for this fight as the more he resists the more dmg your entire raid can do. This also applies to the tanks taking the Shades too. As soon as Taerar spawns these 3 Dragons the warriors must gain agro as soon as possible and try and position them so they aren't breathing on the rest of the raid. It's also advisable that you do not let melee dmg dealers kill these as they have a nasty melee range dot that will cause a lot of damage to the melee. Once you have them under control, focus fire each of them down one at a time.
Raid Positioning:
Have your entire raid to one side with the warriors on the other side if Horde taking the fears and Taerar pointing away from the raid at all times when the % split happen's its best to have all unnecessary players back away from the raid until the 3 Shades are under control also make sure the players that are tanking the shades separate from each other so they are not taking each others poison clouds. Make sure that each Shade tank knows where they have to place the Shades before the fight to avoid confusion.
Tips:
When fighting the Shades make sure if your Taerar MT is taking a shade each time Taerar does his ability that you kill that MT's dragon 1st so he will be at full health and ready to start fighting Taerar once he's awake again.
Just remember that when the % ability is about to happen that the raid is well healed and no one is low health.
Make sure that you have a backup main tank ready to get agro if the main tank accidentally dies and the healers know who that warrior is before the fight too.
If your healers ever get low on mana you can always go well out of range of the dragon and you will come out of combat within a few seconds this will allow you to drink and get back into the fight. This also applies to melee that have lost their healers if they feel that they will die they should also run out of range and heal themselves up.
Everyone should bandage as much as possible to save healers mana as much as possible so they can heal the main people that need it. In this fight if you are not one of the MT's or the Aoe's you shouldn't really be getting any damage at all.
I played Classic until I was nearly level 60. It needs The Burning Crusade really for me though. I am lurking around Daggerspine again for a while, trying to get used to the changes lol
